JK Medical Council pacts MOU with the Asia Pacific Division & the Department of Education International Chair in Bioethics, the global network for medical, health professions, and bioethics education, conducted one-day workshop on Medical and Bioethics Statutory Faculty Training Course:
The Jammu & Kashmir medical council signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Asia Pacific division and the Department of Education International Chair in bioethics (UNESCO chair). The MOU is intended to establish a basis upon which Asia Pacific Division & the Department of Education International Chair in Bioethics and the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council to explore areas for cooperation to initiate joint projects involving Bioethics and Medical ethics teaching, training and updates for medical teachers, medical practitioners, post graduate students, undergraduate medical students and alumni; to facilitate exchanges of ideas and facilities among the Parties, to pursue research, curriculum development, innovative teaching methods and to participate in seminars, conferences, workshops, etc. relevant to the Bioethics, Medical Ethics and Health Law; to facilitate among parties the use of modules and case based methodology in offering Bioethics, Medical Ethics continuous professional development for medical teachers and practitioners; to collaborate in the development and introduction of Bioethics curriculum in the under graduate and postgraduate teaching and training programs in India; to encourage academic innovation by cooperating in developing new teaching and learning technologies and assessment methodologies relevant to the bioethics, Medical Ethics and Health Law; to organize and participate in joint collaborative activities such as conferences, workshops, publications, seminars and online courses.
Further, JK Medical Council in collaboration with the global network for medical, health professions and bioethics education, Melbourne, Australia conducted one-day J&K Medical Council - Medical Faculty Training program in Ethics and Medical Education at Government Medical College, Srinagar on 16th April 2025. The president, JK Medical Council, Prof. S. Muhammad Salim Khan gave the introduction while Prof. Sandeep Dogra, Registrar, JK Medical Council gave the vote of thanks. The guest faculty include Professor Russell Franco D’Souza who is currently the Dean and Professor of Organizational Psychological Medicine at the International Institute of Organizational Psychological Medicine based in Melbourne, Australia, Doncaster, UK and Melbourne, Florida, USA. He is the Chair and Head of the Asia Pacific Division of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at the University of Haifa, now International Chair in Bioethics. Dr. Vedprakash Mishra, professor of excellence, professor of eminence, professor emeritus and distinguished professor, secretary general, international council of global network for medical, health professions & bioethics education, president, association of medical educators of India (AMEI), head of the medical and health professions schools of the Indian program of the ICB-UNESCO chair and chairperson of national task force on medical education constituted by national academy of medical sciences (NAMS), govt. of India. Dr. Mary Mathew is the Secretary General of the Association of Medical Educators of India (AMEI). She is the Deputy Head of Department of Education and National Head India Program International Chair in Bioethics - UNESCO Chair and WMA Collaborating Centre Faculty of Medicine University of Porto. She also serves as a Professor and Head of the Pathology Department at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal MAHE, Karnataka. Dr Princy Louis Palatty is the Head of Department of Pharmacology and Co-ordinator of RTC & ADR Monitoring Center Amrita Vishwapeeth. and The Head, South India unit, UNESCO Chair in Bioethics (HAIFA), National Chair Curriculum, Indian Program Dr Vivek Mady, an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, specialized in Consumer Law, Cyber Forensics and UNESCO Bioethics programmes. Dr. Surapaneni Krishna Mohan is a renowned Medical Teacher and a leading Researcher in the fields of Biochemistry, Medical Education, Bioethics and Population Health Informatics. He currently serves as the Vice Principal & Professor of Biochemistry, Head of the Department of Medical Education at Panimalar Medical College Hospital & Research Institute, Chennai, India. Dr. SKM also leads the Association Medical Education Europe – International Networking Centre (AMEE-INC), Bioethics Unit and Clinical Skills & Simulation at Panimalar Medical College Hospital & Research Institute, Chennai, India. Four focus session were conducted during the workshop including the 3T Paradigm in Bioethics Education: Mastering the Approach to Teach, Train, and Transfer Bioethics in Health Professions; Augmenting Learning with Active Learning Strategies to Enhance Learner Engagement and Understanding; Assessing bioethics from every angle”: Multimodal Assessment Strategies for Bioethics in Health Professions Education and Unraveling the Ethical Frontiers of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Training and Research. The training workshop was attended by J&K Medical Council members including Prof. Mehnaz Sultan and Prof. Asifa Nazir, chairpersons of ethics & grievances committee and CME and anti-quackery committee respectively and the faculty members of medical education units and institutional ethics committees of various medical college across Jammu & Kashmir.
